I had a conversation with someone quite a few months back about the word "bitch," its correspondence with "bastard", and all that jazz. In my life, I have only heard "bitch" used in a demeaning, possessive, or patriarchal way toward women. Ms. Mulaney tends to use the word a lot, especially in reference to herself. I don't know if it is supposed to be an empowerment thing to show that insults don't knock her down, if it's a way of poking fun at herself, or if it is a threat. How people use language can be a barrier to me if I'm not in the know; the amount of slang in today's world is unreal to me.
Ms. Mulaney has a lot of people she or the other person calls "wife." Maybe it's not a word to be taken seriously, and it's a friendly term of endearment?
Is "dick" a common word for people to use? In North Dakota, a lot of people don't that often talk about private parts or sex, as it is highly conservative. Ms. Mulaney made a large post once about how all men are a threat to women. In it, she mentioned that when she was in high school only the men were handed condoms by educators. In my high school, no condoms were ever given out; I don't even know what they look like. Sex is generally a taboo topic. Where I grew up, it was mainly only mentioned in health class. In middle school health class, one day there was a guest speaker who talked to the students about why they should avoid sex until marriage, as it is a dangerous and serious thing that has a high risk of ruining one's life. Mind you, the boys and the girls were given this speech at different times, and I only heard what she said to the boys. She said that to even think about one's own body, let alone another person's, is unhealthy and only leads to trouble. I have never in my life heard anybody mention masturbation, except if it showed up in some kind of film. The movie Transformers was when I first learned the word (when I was in middle school); I asked my parents what it meant, and the question made them extremely uncomfortable.
What else to talk about? Hmm... Well, everyday I have to endure my mom and brother fighting about the same things, and he continues to snap at and criticize me if I so much as twitch. Life's been pretty repetitive for me lately, in just about all things. I think Ms. Mulaney is doing okay, beside from being extremely tired, but I'm not sure.
Maybe I'll have more to say next time.
